# 5.1 - Wells

The Wells tab displays all wells in the your organisation’s remote server database, and allows the user to select a well for use with the Well Views pages. It is split into two sections, the Wells Grid and the Map, the display of which can be toggled using the **Grid** and **Map** buttons on the left hand side of the toolbar.

![](/files/232e3cf0e7e3b87584edf71e0a8c11d971cfa1a9)

The toolbar at the top of the tab contains a number of functions to filter the displayed data, and add new data to the database:

**Grid:** Shows/hides the wells grid.

**Map:** Shows/hides the map.

**Add Instant Well:** This function allows the user to quickly add a new actual well to the remote server database. See **Section 5.1.4** below.

**Import:** The import function allows the user to import well data from the third party programs Compass, Drill Plan and Well Architect. It also allows the user to apply depleted zone data to multiple wells. See **Section 5.1.5** below.

**Refresh Recent Wells:** This option refreshes the information displayed in the Wells tab for the most recently updated wells.

**Refresh All Wells:** This option refreshes the information displayed in the Wells tab for all wells in the database. Note that if the database contains a large number of wells, this can take some time.

The other options on the toolbar allow the user to filter the wells displayed in the grid or the map.

![](/files/13aa5ea7359ee0474e274834ad2eabd0848ae80c)**Pinned Filters:** This option allows the user to pin commonly used filters to the toolbar. Once pinned, clicking on a filter will toggle it on/off. To pin a filter, find it in the dropdown menu and click on the icon on the right hand side. This menu is also the only way to filter the grid by **Assembly Type**.

**Search:** The search bar at the top of the page allows the user to filter the displayed wells by any keyword entered here.

**Favourite:** Filters the Wells tab to only display wells that are marked as favourites. Note that a rig can be added to your favourites by clicking on the star on the status indicator for a well.

<figure><img src="/files/f481a445dd2cba53309760d5aa539023aa726c11" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**BHA in Hole:** Filters the Wells tab to only display wells that currently have a BHA below the rotary tab.

**Active WITS:** Filters the Wells tab to only display wells that are currently receiving WITS data.

**Incidents:** Filters the Wells tab to only display wells that have at least one incident recorded in a motor performance report.

**Curve:** Filters the Wells tab to only display wells that are currently in the curve phase of the well.

**All/7d/60d/1Y:** These options filter the End Date column in the grid so that it only displays wells drilled between now and the selected time frame.

**Show Offsets:** By default the Wells tab does not display offset wells – wells that contain no reporting data or have the N/A status. Toggle this option on to display them.

## 5.1.1 - Map

The map displays a plot of the wells in the organization’s database on a Google Maps window. The map can be moved around by left-clicking and dragging, and can be zoomed in and out using the mouse wheel. Clicking on a well will display some details.

![](/files/bf815fc6328c37ff011ddbf075726bb83cac6de1)

Clicking on **View Well**will take the user to that well’s Well Details page, and select it for use with the Well Views pages.

If the map is zoomed out too far to distinguish between individual wells, the wells are clustered together with an icon that shows the number of wells in the cluster. Clicking on a cluster will zoom in, allowing the user to see individual wells.

**Note**: Google Maps uses it’s own co-ordinate reference system which usually will not match the CRS of the wells, so the location of wells on the Map will not exactly match their true location

If the user hovers over the ![](/files/9eefea57e0821efadb4eef285b8b4358c6080473) icon, it will display the **Map** **Layers**menu, which can toggle on additional geological and geographical information on the Map. The **Shale Basins**and **Conventional Basins**options toggles display their respective oil play areas on the Map. Additionally, they can toggle on state and county borders using the **States**and **Counties** options. Lastly, the **Well Paths** option will impose the plan view plots of the wells on the map.

![](/files/dd1497c7c9698d50811d13c6c27ffd3f06da93cf)

To the right of the Map is the Wells Counters. These counters tally the wells in the organization’s database according to three criteria, set out below. The user can hover over each section in the Wells Counters to get more information.

## 5.1.2 - Wells Grid

The Wells Grid is a table that lists all of the wells in your organisation’s remote server database, along with some key information for each well.

![](/files/c09c8c12bbae6c650231a76570f50863351017e6)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.innova-drilling.com/introduction/innova-engineering-manual/innova-vantage-manual/5.0-dashboard/5.1-wells.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
