# 8.2.2 - Database

**New:** Creates a new blank Well Seeker X database. It should be noted that most symbols should cannot be used in the filename and that the user must have write permissions for the file location selected. Unless Well Seeker X is running with administrator privileges it will not by default have write access to the C:\ location or C:\Program Files.

It should also be noted that creating a new database that automatically select it. It must be manually selecting using the **Select** function.

**Select:** Select a database on the user’s PC for Well Seeker X to use. This will also be the database which Well Seeker X will attempt to connect to the next time the program is opened. The file path of the selected database is displayed on the Status Bar at the bottom of the Well Seeker X window.

**Backup:** This option allows the user to save a copy of the currently selected database. During drilling operations it is recommended to make multiple backups at regular intervals, such as every shift change, to protect from data loss.

**Open:** This option will open the folder where the currently selected database is located in the users computer.
