5.0 - Main User Interface

When Well Seeker X is run, it opens to the main user interface. The main interface is where the user can view the database structure, any opened surveys, plans and charts, and access most of the Well Seeker features via the menu ribbons.

Figure 1: Main Well Seeker X interface

The main user interface is split into a number of sections, which are described in the chapters below.

5.1 - Survey, Plan & Chart Viewing Area

The majority of the Well Seeker X interface is made up of the Viewing Area. Double clicking on a survey, actual wellbore, plan or planned wellbore in the Object Explorer will open it in the Viewing Area. When viewing one of these objects, the user will be able to display charts in the Viewing Area by clicking on one of the options in the Home ribbon menu.

When multiple objects are displayed at the same time, the user can switch between them by clicking on the tabs at the top of the viewing area. Items can be closed by clicking on the x in each tab.

Figure 2: Object tabs in the Viewing Area

When viewing a survey, actual wellbore, plan or planned wellbore, the columns in the table can be rearranged by left clicking and dragging the column headers. Columns can be shown or hidden using the Show/Hide option in the Settings ribbon.

5.1.1 - Splitting and Separating the Viewing Area

The Viewing Area can be split to display multiple tabs at the same time. To do so, left click on the tab name and drag it towards the right or bottom edge of the viewing area, until the area is highlighted in blue. To remove the split, left click on the tab name and drag it towards the other tabs.

Figure 3: Splitting the Viewing Area

Tabs in the Viewing Area can also be separated from the Well Seeker X interface into their own independent windows, allowing the user to move them to a separate monitor. To do so, left click on the tab name and drag it outside of the main Well Seeker X window. To undo the separation, left click on the tab name and drag it back to the Viewing Area the main window.

5.2 - Object Explorer

The Object Explorer allows the user to navigate through and manipulate the data stored in their Well Seeker X database.

Figure 5: Object Explorer

The Well Seeker database is structured in a branching tree format, split into eight levels. Levels can be expanded and collapsed by clicking on the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ symbols at each level. Right clicking on a level will display a context menu with options available for that level. Double clicking on a survey, plan, actual wellbore or planned wellbore will open them in the Viewing Area.

For more details on the Object Explorer, see Section 7.0 - Object Explorer.

5.3 - Menu Ribbons

The menu ribbons are located at the top of the main user interface, and are where the user can access most of the Well Seeker X features.

Figure 6: Well Seeker X menu ribbon

The user can switch between ribbons by clicking on their names at the top of the interface. A detailed breakdown each ribbon and their features can be found in Section 8.0 - Menu Ribbons

Some features are only available depending on the item that you currently have selected in the Object Explorer, or are currently viewing in the Viewing Area. For example, chart features can only be used if the user is viewing a survey, plan, actual wellbore or planned wellbore in the Viewing Area. Additionally, the Chart Properties ribbon can only be opened if the user is viewing a chart in the Viewing Area.

The menu ribbons have some additional options, described in the chapters below.

The menu ribbons can be searched by typing in the Search box in the top right corner of the interface. Enter a key word and Well Seeker X will display associated ribbon menu options.

5.3.2 - Simplified Mode

The layout of the ribbons can be changed to simplified mode, by selecting the toggle button in the top right corner of the screen. Simplified mode hides the text in the ribbon and reduces the area it takes up in the interface.

5.4 - Quick Access Bar

The Quick Access Toolbar is located in the top left of the Well Seeker X interface, above the menu ribbons. It allows the user to pin their favourite menu ribbon options, so that they can be more easily accessed.

5.5 - Status Bar

The Well Seeker X status bar is located at the bottom of the main user interface. It provides the user with information on the programs current operation, such as the database location, current unit set and the status of data feeds like the Real Time Data Exchange and WITS. It also provides shortcuts to a number of functions.

The status bar contains the following items:

The function of each item is as follows:

Status message: Displays the current activity being performed by Well Seeker X.

Select unit set: Opens the Unit Sets dialog, allowing the user to switch between unit sets.

Current unit set: The unit set currently being used.

Open database location: Opens the folder location of the currently selected local database.

Database location: Displays the file path of the currently selected local database. If the user is logged into a remote server database, this will display “Remote Database – “ and the name of the database.

Chart Image: Exports the currently viewed chart as a jpg image. This option is only available if a chart is open in the Viewing Area.

Open capture location: Opens the folder where screen captures made in Well Seeker are saved. The screen capture file is always called screenCapture.mp4. Note that whenever a new screen capture is made, the old file is overwritten with the new recording.

Start/Stop Screen Capture: Click on this icon to begin recording a screen capture of your main computer monitor. This screen capture can be sent to Innova for technical support purposes. A red square around your screen indicates that it is being recorded, and a timer will appear on the status bar, and the Start/Stop Screen Capture icon will have a green indicator. Record yourself performing the activity that you are having technical issues with, and then click on the Start/Stop Screen Capture icon again to stop the recording. In Well Seeker X version 3.0.2.9 or later, the screen capture will record sound. Use the Open capture location icon to the left to find your newly created recording.

Data Exchange: Opens the Real Time Data Exchange dialog.

Data Exchange status: If the real time data exchange is running, this will display a countdown until the next data push up to the server. If the previous data push was successful, the Data Exchange icon will be green:

If the previous push failed, it will be red:

If the user performs a successful manual push, the icon will be green and the time of the push will be displayed:

If the user attempts a manual push and it fails, the icon will be red and the time of the failed push will be displayed.

If the data exchange is not active, the status will display “DX OFF”.

Import IPMs: Imports the survey error model IPM files stored on your organisation’s remote server database. Note that this will overwrite the IPMs stored locally on your PC.

IPM status: When Well Seeker X starts, it contacts your organisation’s remote server database and checks if the IPM files on your PC match with the files on the server. If they do, the icon will be highlighted green and you will see the message “IPMS OK”.

If they do not match, the icon will be highlighted red and you will see the message "IPMS Out of date”. In this case, you may wish to click on the icon to download the IPMs from your organisation’s remote server database.

Data Sync status: If your organisation has data synchronisation enabled, you can view the status of the data sync connection here. If everything is working normally, the icon will be highlighted in green. If there are any issues, it will be red. Clicking on the data sync icon will toggle the data sync offline.

WITS status: If the user is running the WITS or WITSML reader, the status of the data feed can be seen here. If Well Seeker is successfully receiving data, the icon will be highlighted green. If there is an error, it will highlight red.

Notifications: If any notifications for Well Seeker are available (e.g. a software update) the icon will display a number. Clicking on the notifications icon will toggle the display of the notifications panel, where any outstanding notifications can be viewed.

5.6 - Light & Dark Mode

The Well Seeker X interface can be toggled between light and dark themes by clicking on the Style dropdown in the top right corner of the main interface.
